How can slavery still exist in the world in 2015?
When a high-school student asks herself this question, she quickly discovers that the world as it exists today differs significantly from the world of her textbooks. In history, she was taught that world leaders had abolished the institution of slavery centuries back. To her horror, she discovers that modern-day slavery thrives all across the world. In some countries, children are lured or stolen from their homes and sold as sex workers into a life of degradation from which there is no escape. Even more shockingly, she realizes that human trafficking is prevalent in her own country, the United States.
Determined to learn how to combat modern-day slavery, she begins speaking to anti-trafficking activists. Although each of them occupy different professions, there is a common thread-- they are all committed to ridding the world of neo-slavery through their individual careers. She discovers the stories of these "abolitionists", who through their courage, commitment and perseverance, have aided victims and survivors. . Inspired by them, she starts interviewing and documenting the journeys of these heroes. This book tells their stories.

It is commendable that a high-school student growing up in a society of easy-access consumerism cared to even think about this serious yet much-neglected social issue. It is inspiring that the author followed-up her thought with such positive action. We need many more such role models. This book should be a must read in our high schools.Product details
